Where Power Hides: Why I'm Starting This Substack (and What You Can Expect)
Announcing my new Substack for serialized sci-fi, fantasy, and the stories behind the stories.
Hi everyone,
I’m excited (and a little nervous) to be launching my Substack — a new space where I’ll be sharing my stories, my worlds, and my creative journey with all of you.
I’m starting this Substack for two big reasons:
First, to hold myself accountable — to keep making steady progress toward my writing milestones.
Second, to build a real connection with readers while these worlds are still taking shape. I don’t want to only show up once a polished book is ready; I want to share the process and the stories as they unfold.
The first story I'll be sharing is called The Omission Index, a serialized science fiction saga set within the universe of one of my upcoming novels.
It follows a covert team of superhumans working for a secretive agency, tasked with investigating the dark and hidden crimes committed by others like them.
In a world where superhuman abilities have been part of society for generations, it’s not just about who has power — it’s about who decides how that power is wielded, concealed, or corrupted.
Here’s what you can expect:
Serialized chapters of The Omission Index, delivered regularly.
Early access to chapters if you’re a paid subscriber.
Exclusive short stories set in this world — side missions, character deep-dives, and secrets you won’t find anywhere else.
Occasional behind-the-scenes posts about worldbuilding, inspirations, and how I approach building societies where power is more than just personal — it’s political.
And The Omission Index is just the beginning.
I'm already working on two more serialized stories that will be launching here soon:
A slice-of-life story with a paranormal twist, exploring friendship, identity, and navigating everyday life when the extraordinary bleeds into the ordinary.
A science fiction story about exploring identity and cultural intersections, set against a backdrop of technological change, migration, and what it means to belong to more than one world.
If you love science fiction and fantasy that explores what happens when magic, power, and politics collide — and you enjoy stories that aren’t afraid to step into the darker corners of what people will do for control — I think you’ll find something here worth following.
Thank you for being here at the beginning.
I can’t wait to build these worlds — and this community — with you.
See you in the next chapter,
M. S. Rayed
